What’s involved in a Health Screening?

This isn’t just a quick check—it’s a meaningful early-warning system for your health. Many conditions develop quietly with few or no symptoms.

The health screening is with a healthcare professional using LEO360® to facilitate the ‘primary health screening process’ before you are joined by a private GP paid for by Davidsons Homes.

Here’s what to expect

The following functions will be conducted with the assistance of the Health Care Assistant. First they will ask you about any current medical conditions, any medications, and past medical history parameters. This information is loaded into Leo, plus the readings from the preliminary health screening processes detailed below. All of which will be made available to the GP who will join through Leo once these initial health screening processes have been completed.

Height

Measures how tall a person is. It helps assess:

  • Overall body size
  • Changes in height over time
  • Proportions used in health calculations

Why this matters in health screening:
Height is an important baseline measurement and provides essential context for other health checks. Tracking height helps:

  • Calculate Body Mass Index (BMI) when combined with weight
  • Identify unusual changes in height, which can signal bone, spinal, or posture issues
  • Support accurate assessment of health risks linked to weight and body composition

In screenings, height helps make other results more meaningful and ensures health risks are assessed accurately and fairly.

Weight

Measures how much a person weighs. It helps assess:

  • Overall body weight
  • Changes in weight over time
  • Possible underweight or overweight status

Why this matters in health screening:
Weight on its own isn’t the full picture, but it’s an important baseline health marker. Tracking weight helps:

  • Identify risk for conditions like heart disease and diabetes
  • Spot sudden weight loss or gain, which can signal illness, stress, or hormonal issues
  • Provide context for other measurements (like blood pressure and blood sugar)
  • Monitor progress in health programs or treatment plans

In screenings, weight gives quick insight into general health trends and risk factors.

Blood Pressure

Measures the force of blood pushing against artery walls as the heart beats and rests. It checks:

  • Systolic pressure (pressure when the heart beats)
  • Diastolic pressure (pressure when the heart rests)
  • Overall blood pressure level

Why this matters in health screening:
High blood pressure often has no symptoms but is a major risk factor for:

  • Heart disease
  • Stroke
  • Kidney damage
  • Vision problems

Screening is crucial because:

  • Many people have high blood pressure and don’t know it
  • Early detection allows lifestyle changes or treatment before serious damage occurs
  • It adds key context to heart and oxygen readings

It helps identify people who need follow-up care

Temperature

Measures the body’s internal temperature to see if it’s within a normal range. It checks for:

  • Fever
  • Lower-than-normal temperature
  • Sudden changes from a person’s baseline

Why this matters in health screening:
Body temperature is a simple but powerful signal of what’s going on inside the body. It helps:

  • Detect infections or inflammation
  • Flag early illness, even before symptoms are obvious
  • Identify potential complications in people with weakened immune systems
  • Add context to breathing, heart, and oxygen readings

In screenings, temperature helps quickly spot people who may be unwell and need further assessment before returning to work, school, or public spaces.

Oxygen Level & Pulse Checker

Measures how much oxygen is in the blood and tracks heart rate by clipping onto a finger. It checks:

  • Blood oxygen saturation (how well oxygen is being carried in the blood)
  • Pulse rate (heartbeats per minute)
  • Changes in oxygen levels over time

Why this matters in health screening:
Oxygen levels show how well the lungs and heart are working together. Low oxygen can be an early warning sign of:

  • Breathing problems
  • Lung infections
  • Asthma or COPD
  • Heart conditions
  • Sleep-related breathing issues

In a screening setting, this is powerful because:

  • People can have low oxygen without obvious symptoms
  • It helps flag respiratory issues early
  • It’s fast, painless, and non-invasive

It adds another critical “vital sign” to the overall health snapshot

At this point the GP joins your consultation

Viewing you through Leo, the GP has access to all the information collected so far, plus they can even use the super powerful lens to zoom in on anything they feel needs closer investigation. Depending on your preliminary health screening results or your answers to their questions – they may carry out further investigations using the following:

Dermoscope Skin Scanner

Magnifies and lights up the skin so you can closely examine:

  • Moles and freckles
  • Skin lesions or unusual spots
  • Changes in colour, shape, or borders
  • Signs of infection or inflammation

Why this matters in health screening:
Skin is the most visible organ—but subtle warning signs are easy to miss with the naked eye. A dermoscope helps spot:

  • Early signs of skin cancer
  • Infections or rashes that may need treatment
  • Changes in moles that could indicate risk

Catching skin changes early is huge because many serious skin conditions are very treatable when found early.

Otoscope

Looks inside the ear canal and at the eardrum. It checks for:

  • Earwax build-up
  • Signs of infection (redness, swelling, fluid)
  • Damage or inflammation of the eardrum
  • Blockages or foreign objects

Why this matters in health screening:
Ear problems can affect balance, hearing, and even learning and work performance. Infections and blockages are common but often ignored because people can’t see inside their own ears. Early detection helps:

  • Prevent hearing loss
  • Catch infections before they worsen
  • Identify issues that might explain dizziness, pain, or headaches

Stethoscope - Heart & Lung Listener

Listens to sounds inside the body, including:

  • Heart rhythm and heartbeat strength
  • Breathing sounds in the lungs
  • Abnormal sounds like wheezing, crackles, or murmurs

Why this matters in health screening:
The heart and lungs give early warning signs of major health issues. This helps detect:

  • Breathing problems (like asthma, infections, fluid in lungs)
  • Irregular heartbeats
  • Early signs of heart or lung disease

In screenings, this can flag issues people might not feel yet—before symptoms become serious.

Glucometer - Blood Sugar Tester

Measures the amount of sugar (glucose) in the blood using a small finger-prick sample.

Why this matters in health screening:
Blood sugar levels are a major indicator of:

  • Diabetes
  • Prediabetes
  • How well someone’s body manages energy

This is incredibly important because:

  • Many people have high blood sugar and don’t know it
  • Early detection can prevent serious complications like nerve damage, kidney disease, vision loss, and heart problems
  • It helps identify people who need lifestyle changes or medical follow-up
